not meant to be

You know when you get that feeling in your gut you shouldn't do something?
Well that is the feeling I got after our home inspection and foundation inspection.
The house is basically supported by one beam down the center from front to back.
It needs 40 additional piers and a 40 foot wall across the back and along the right side.
Did I mention it needs to have five yards of dirt hand dug from underneath and then be jacked up to do all of this?
Yeah, that is more than we bargained for.  And that little gut voice was saying - "let it go, you have no idea what can of worms that opens once it is put back down."
So, our journey to buy this house has ended.  We are fine because we are glad we found out all the problems before versus after.
We will just take it easy- if something is meant for us I am sure it will find us..otherwise we'll just get ready to work on our cottage gardens here at home.
Our home for 6.

  1. Hi Tammy,
I'm so sorry that you didn't get the house that you wanted. But, you were wise to get an inspection. Wow, that would have cost tons of money.

Don't worry, the right one will come along!

  3. Ocular inspection of the house before buying it is a must. I'm so sorry to hear about that, but there are more possibilities that you'll find a better home.

  5. Good to listen to that inner voice. Wow, that would have been oodles of work and money. I'm sorry that it didn't work out but something will surface down the road. I LOVE your current home and all the transformations you have made. I'll just keep drooling over this house until the next one comes along :) xo, Michelle

  7. I know you are sad about the house because it really is darling but you also did a great public service by mentioning the home inspection. So many people don't do it because of the additional expense. Your example shows how important and how inexpensive an inspection really is given the magnitude of issues you would have had to fix if you had not known to walk away.

That perfect house for you is out there somewhere just waiting for you to discover it. Best of luck with the hunt!

  10. I can imagine the disappointment you felt when you found out how much work was needed on the house. I went back and read your other posts about this house, loved the pic's, and love the house, too! You will find something better, I'm sure... but until then, enjoy your current home which I have always, always wished was mine! ;-)

  12. I think you were so smart to walk away. My mom and dad had to do something similar to their house, and when they were lowering it back onto the foundation, one of the jacks slipped. They had cracked walls and windows everywhere!
This just wasn't the right house. You'll find it, though.
