Red White and Blue challenge at The CSI Project

Well it's that time of week again.  Time for the weekly challenge at the CSI project.

This weeks challenge is RED, WHITE & BLUE.
After you are done looking at my project feel free to click HERE to go see the rest of the projects..

Now on to my entry-
Every year my family goes to the beach for 4th of July.  Of course with boys they just bear with me and wear their yearly tshirts with flags on them.  But once we got our princess I knew I could make cute patriotic outfits for her to wear on our nation's birthday.
So, here is my Red, White & Blue project...
(You can click on the picture to see it larger if you need to)
I made the top with different patriotic fabric- well I will be honest - it was supposed to be a dress but somehow I always manage to make them too short.  Then so as not to have her be equivalent to a BRATZ doll I needed to make some bottoms.  And whipped up some pants with ruffles on the bottom.  I like the end result much better than just a dress. Sometimes mistakes are fortunate they say.  I also made a bunch of coordinating hair accessories- she is a diva I tell you.

Now go see the other projects... at

another transformation tuesday

I am having such fun taking thrift store clothing and repurposing, upcycling, transforming or whatever you call it - into something new that my little girl can wear. Here is our current cord jumper- size 24 months. We loved the apples and of course the colors..so we had to have another skirt.

Here it is on the princess- we even made a hair flower to go with it. I especially like how she accessorized it with her sucker :)

thrift to cool ...

Well today is trash to treasure at Reinvented. I bought this girls size 12 turtleneck for $1.00 at the thrift shop. Now, I know my daughter is only a size 4 but I had a plan.
I cut off the bottom portion and made her a nice fun little skirt with that ruffle as the bottom. Then I had the top left..hmm what to do? Well I cut the sleeves off and then made the top thinner by sewing it up on each size about 2 inches. I then cut the sleeve tops off a bit to make them shorter than reattached them. So, we had a Brittney Spears short top- not the look I want on my daughter - she has a great little tummy but not for the world to see. I then took some fabric and attached a long skirt to it. So, from this:
to this: I think it turned out quite cute. What do you think? She insisted on wearing it to school today even though I told her it was a bit warm. She loves it.

being thrifty

Well everyone's budget is tight. And I think "thrifty" is the word right now. I have seen so many creative ladies take old clothing and upcycle it to something else. I figured I'd have a go at it.
This is one of about 5 things I got at the thrift shop that was buy one get one free. It is a size 2t jumper. My daughter wears a size 4 so it definitely would now work for her unless I wanted her hiney hanging out. No, that would be a BRATZ doll thing to do and we don't do BRATZ dolls :)
But what if I cut it up to do something else? hmmm wheels turning here. I loved the little Scottie dogs and knew she'd love them since she asks on a daily basis if we can get a puppy. arrrghh another post there.
I grabbed the scissors and cut off the top portion then took the zipper out and sewed it shut on the back.

Next folded over a casing for elastic.

And voila- here is the princess all dressed for school this morning in her new skirt. She loved it just like I thought she would.
