College move in day

Well it is done. My eldest son is all moved into his dorm room. We took the whole family and a suburban load of stuff to freshman move in day. It was nice to be out of our town to a place where it is much cooler. The dorm was nice and very clean. Important to a mom not to a teenage boy. The room was very small- but he will do fine. It was very hard for me to leave him there. I know we raise them and hope we do it well so they can fly on their own ready to face the world. But I honestly must say it was one of the hardest things I have ever done to drive away and him not be coming home with us. My heart has a huge piece broken off of it.
Everyone says it will get easier but I am not sure they are right. It is very lonely with him gone and I miss him terribly. Now, if I could just stop crying.

  1. I am sure yesterday was very tough, I was thinking of you all day. Glad to know he is settled in, I know he will do well. Hope it gets easier- how did Sophie take it?

  2. Driving away is the hardest part, I remember it well. You have nothing to do but remember saying goodbye. Dd's roomie's mom stayed in the dorm and slept on the sofa for a week before she could say goodbye. lol

  3. It really will get better, Tammy. I cried half way home the day we left our first one at college. She went for the summer to start and I cried most of it. It took me almost a year to not cry~but I made it and she did fine, as did our youngest, which was hard, too!

Hang in there~I'll be thinking about you!

  4. Sending big hugs your way, Tammy.

When my oldest daughter moved out to go to college, I sat in her bedroom at home and cried for hours. The same thing happened when my son moved out and then all over again when my youngest daughter moved out. They now live in Norway, Japan, and L.A.

Mamas hold their childrens' hands as they grow up, and even though we have to let go when they are grown, our hearts will always keep us connected.

  5. I'm sorry you're so sad Tammy. I know what it's like, trust me. It will get better though :)

BTW, your kitchen is INCREDIBLE! I can't wait to get started on mine this weekend ;)

  6. Oh Tammy-This will make any mom sad-just thinking of the day I drop mine off.
