And the stockings were hung by the chimney with care...

Another craft I have been having fun making are stockings.  I used to do them with the quilting fabric but this year I have gone more to neutrals.  I love burlap, linen and muslin.  I decided to make some with burlap while I was working on my burlap table runners.  If you have ever worked with burlap you know it is messy so best to get all the projects done at one time and just make one big mess.
Here are the ones I worked on - they all follow the basic look but are finished out differently to make them unique.

This first one I did in all burlap- ruffle included.  I added the little posy flower to the top with old doilies and ribbons.

This second one I wanted more muslin showing so did the ruffle at the top in that.  I then added some upholstery webbing and a posy for the flower.

This third one shares the same muslin ruffle at the top but has a different flower with red ticking and a taupe ribbon.

This one is more romantic with a long lace ruffle and then a very feminine posy at the top.

This one makes a bold statement with the flower.  Since the flower is so big I kept the ruffle in the same burlap as the stocking.

And the last one I used some cream burlap as the ruffle to keep the same texture but add a little big of differentiation and kept the flower neutral too.
I had a good time making these - it really makes me want to create new stockings for the family this year.  Maybe not burlap though ...hmmmm linen sounds good.
Are you making any stockings this year?

  1. Tammy, I just love those and I love the burlap. Is there different grades of burlap? I bought some to do some projects with and it is just so course. I was in a hurry the other day as I was running throught Walmart. They had a tablecloth that looked alot like burlap, I am going to go back and take a look at it, might be easier to work with.
