A spot of tea - for the birds

Well it is time once again for the CSI's weekly challenge. And this week it is "hardware store".
It's also time for a new party over at Brambleberry Cottage- Tips and Tricks Tuesday.
This means we have to use something from the hardware store in our final product.
I made a lot of these for sale at my show in May and they were quite easy- little bird feeders.
I took a china cup and saucer and glued them together with E6000 glue- the best glue known to man I might add.
Then I went and perused the hardware aisle at Lowes..I used to use copper plumbing fittings but we all know how high copper has gone so I needed a new alternative. I found these little metal things in the specialty hardware tool chests - they are flat on one side and then have an area to screw a threaded pipe into on the other side- perfect.
So, out came the E6000 glue again to glue it on.
Next I hit the metal pipe aisle and found the right size pipe with the right size thread and screwed them together.
Now the birds have a feeder or bath depending what you put into it.
Some tips on these: -There are many glues out there.
Some that do well on porcelain but then don't adhere to metal.
Some that adhere to metal and then not porcelain.
There are super glues that work but that stuff can take your fingerprints off if you are not careful.
And there is epoxy but who needs that smell if you can get away with not using it.
But this will not and I repeat will not work with hot glue.
You have to remember it is to be used in the outside elements so I swear by the E6000 glue on china because believe me I tried it all and this is all that would work with china to china, and china to metal.
Also you can use plates only and be more of a feeder- or you can use bowls to be more of a bath or you can use other items. I've seen silver used and also plastic.
If you do a birdbath option - a tip to keeping the water nice and less slimy..put some lavender in it.
I have had a few emails about where to buy E6000 glue- sorry I had called it D6000 in this post but corrected it..I buy mine at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Hope that helps some.
Have fun and join the ladies at CSI for more ideas and then head on over to Brambleberry Cottage for more tips on things.
Don't forget my giveaway - it ends tonight at 10pm

  1. Those are too cute cute! My email is allthatglitters2009 at yahoo! Email me anytime! There is no spaces in there of course! I am about 3 hours from the sale you sold your lovely stuff at!!! Wow! You would make a fortune at Hillsville! Hillsville is on main street! As soon as you get off the exit turn right and your there! That easy! I believe my dad sells in the Bowman field. He said he did very well for that being the small sale. On Labor day there is over 400,000 people come through. It last from Friday to Monday. You set your stuff up on Thursday. I believe my dad paid all together $185 for his spot. Just look in to it!

  2. I'm glad you found something other than copper to mount these on. I made a few a while back and couldn't find anything that I could subsitute and would hold.
