From maple to loverly...

My sister has a living room that needs some help shall we say. She has mostly hand-me-down furniture or thrift shop etc. Nothing wrong with that except that they don't all go together cohesively. That is my project. I love to finish furniture, sew and decorate so she told me - "have at it girl".
She bought this chair from a lovely older neighbor that moved from the house she built over 50 years ago to a senior citizen living center. It is just your typical maple chair with cushions. I do not have a pic of the chair with the cushions as I took them early on to recover..nasty older fabric. Here is the chair before:

It has nice lines and very curvy girly legs. I primed it, painted it with 2 coats of white linen paint by glidden. Then I distressed it with a block covered in sandpaper. I then used glaze to cover it - you know - wipe on - wipe off. I think we have success Houston.

See how the glaze really sets off the curves and carved areas. I love this - too bad it has to go- but I am sure my sister will let me sit in it when I miss her :)

Off to do a table for her now..

  16. Tammy,

I am new to blogging and found you via Cottage Instincts. After seeing that WINTER burlap banner, I was hoping you had an etsy shop! This chair is beautiful. You are very creative and talented. I enjoyed looking through some of your posts and will be returning. Thanks for sharing.

  17. wow, that's gorgeous. I've repainted loads of stuff, but have shied away from reupholstering. Ok, so the duct taped couch doesn't count - although it lasted for years!
actually saw duct tape tech on Christopher Lowell's show yrs ago.
