Well it is another Monday and another Metamorphosis Monday with Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. and Make your Monday with Kim at the Twice Remembered Cottage. Once done here please head back over there to see all the amazing transformations that have taken place all over blogland.
This weekend was an extremely busy weekend at our house. We needed to get one side of the kitchen cabinets up and counter tops on. Because next weekend we need to hit the sink and dishwasher side- which will be a bit more labor and time intensive.
Now remember with me the kitchen before during demo...think back - oh here it is:
Now take a look at it.
We got the cabinets from Lowe's- diamond brand in painted white finish. The counter tops are from the lovely IKEA. I am hoping to put some oil on them to darken them up some. I thought I could just stain them but then there is the whole food safe stain dilemma. If it isn't one thing it is another right? The floors I did with porch paint but have not poly'd them yet.
And I am loving my new Kenmore Pro stove. I am taking some time getting used to the oven..it takes a bit longer heating up. And I am not a patient person. We are working on it together - me and the oven. :)
You will notice that there is not a back splash yet or the cabinet over the stove- well gotta get the vent hood in and also some bead board for the back splash. I will be sure to post pics as it all comes together. Be sure of that. I do have to thank my hubby and two sons for putting up the cabinets today- it was not an easy job as this great 1929 house doesn't have a plumb wall to speak of.
Now my next little pretty is a chair my neighbor gave me. Why she didn't put it in her garage sale is beyond me. She said she didn't have any of the matching ones left. Well I forgot to take a before pic of it but just imagine it was plain brown wood and a red and white striped seat. I painted it my great free paint from Gliden - robins egg blue- the color is amazing and then I just recovered it in muslin. It looks great.
And lastly, is a chair I got at an auction. It was $1. Yes very expensive. It went so cheap because the dang thing can't be sanded smooth. I tried so many different sandpaper numbers and it would not sand smooth so then I thought, "well what the heck can I do to it?"
And voila I decided to decoupage it with dictionary pages. It was a mess but my 4 year old and sister got in the act and helped me do it. Once done I then glazed it with smoke glaze by Ralph Lauren and then stenciled the word "seat" on the seat of the chair.
It was very time consuming for a $1 chair but it was fun.
That is all for me this week. I am pooped. I have two more chairs to work on this week - paint and reupholster, a dresser to paint, 10 pillows to make, a couple of aprons and the normal mommy and housekeeping jobs to do. arrrghh another long week ahead.
Until then check out the other posts and have a great week.

ReplyDeleteWow, what a difference in the kitchen. Finished product: A++++
Cute chair makeovers too.
The only bad part about making things for a bazaar is that I don't want to part with anything.
What kinds of things do you make for your show? Have you posted about any of them? I would love to see what you have come up with.
I will be trying to post as I go with my inventory. Unfortunately, my husband is off work healing from hernia surgery and is cutting into my crafting time. I guess I will just have to make his honey-do list a little longer LOL!
Love the cabinets and how you stenciled seat on the chair...lol
ReplyDeleteI love that corner storage cabinet thing you have there. That would be great to hide my kitchen aide in.
Aww man I wish I was curb side when you pitched those great old cabinets. I love your new ones too.
